The Mindfulness of Self – This essay is the most accessible and concise one in the book, and its a great introduction to the discipline of mindfulness.
The book’s best essay, The Mindfulness of the Body, focuses on how we are able to reduce our stress levels by reducing our intake of caffeine, nicotine, and sugar. The title, The Mindfulness of the Body, implies that the body is the most important part of our mental and emotional state, but it’s not the only part. The entire book is really about how we can manage our stress and our moods, and learn to manage all of them at the same time.
In a nutshell, it is a very good book and a really good introduction to mindfulness.I want to make a distinction between mindfulness and mindfulness-related self-control. Most self-control involves taking the cues that we have to consciously take. You’re going to notice a certain amount of things around you, and what you’re going to notice is that you have to choose your way around them.
By contrast, mindfulness involves taking the cues that we don’t have to consciously take. You dont have to go through the motions of trying to make things happen. Instead, you just keep your attention on the things that you don’t want to happen. That seems to be what the book is all about.
